Gibbons Fails on the Environment
Nevada Conservation League gives Gibbons an F
RGJ: Inside Nevada Politics 2/2/2010
The Nevada Conservation League will be releasing its annual gubernatorial scorecard tomorrow assessing Gov. Jim Gibbons' record on issues important to the group during the 2009 Legislature.Perhaps unsurprisingly the Democratic-leaning group gave Gibbons an F. But the league saved its harshest criticism what they described as Gibbons' general lack of leadership ability.
"As we head into the 2010 elections, it is clear that Governor Gibbons lacks leadership capabilities, certainly on conservation issues, but on many other issues as well. His detached management style has resulted in a situation where leaders on both sides of the aisle don’t trust him to keep his word and see little value in working with his office," the report said.
The league also faulted Gibbons for vetoing four of its priority bills and criticized his appointments to the state wildlife commission. The Legislature overrode all but one of the four vetoes.
"Basically we're recommending somebody else be elected governor," the group's spokesman Kyle Davis said.
Gibbons' spokesman Dan Burns had a brief response:
"They must be talking about someone else. Their criticism is laughable."
